About Us & DigitalCMS

We're Sheppard Digital, and we've got over 14 years experience in web development (primarily PHP).

If you visit our main website, you'll see we specialise in web development outsourcing. We help agencies provide services to their clients where they maybe don't have the skills in-house, or they've simple got too much work going on and don't want to take the risk of employing more developers.

Many years ago, we developed our own Content Management System, which over the years has been improved and built upon to form DigitalCMS. We've had extensive experience working with clients and it's using this experience that's enabled us to create such a fantastic product. We know the product works, because it's being used by over 50 websites to date.

Why did we build our own CMS when there's plenty of open-source options out there?

Over the years we found it increasingly difficult to build custom functionality into websites for clients using open-source solutions. We felt like we were shoe-horning websites into the existing functionality provided by open-source content managements systems. We wanted a content management system that we fully understood, and could easily expand upon as clients requested unique functionality. What we do now is mould the CMS around the clients needs, not the other way around.

As we moved away from working with clients directly, to working with agencies and specialised in outsourcing, agencies began using our content management system, so we started to make it easier to brand for each agency, and that's when we realised "Hey, we have a product here".

There we have it, that's how we came up with DigitalCMS. Six years in the making (in some shape or form).
